Debi Fieri, ASW
Hello! My name is Debi Fieri and I am an Associate Clinical Social Worker. Thank you for taking the time to read my bio. I applaud your bravery in finding yourself on the SALT Counseling website. The choice to seek therapy services is often made during seasons of challenge and difficulty, as well as significant life transitions. Your present decision to address the concerns in your life is the greatest step in your healing process.
I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Hanover College - a small school in Southern Indiana, and a Masters of Social Work from Indiana University. Yes, I am a Hoosier by birth, but I embraced the Southern California lifestyle when I moved here in 2001. During my years of social work practice, I have worked with foster children and their birth families and foster families, birthparents and adoptive couples, adolescents in residential treatment facilities, individuals and families experiencing grief and trauma, as well as those persons feeling the pressures of anxiety and depression.
As a supportive and compassionate clinician, I truly believe every individual has the source of personal healing already present within them. The therapist walks beside the client, not there to tell the client what to do, but to assist and empower the client in accessing this healing. In my sessions with adolescents and adults, I utilize a combination of Client-Centered Therapy (Rogerian) as well as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. For clients who desire, I incorporate Christian biblical principles and prayer into our time together. I have been the recipient of evidence-based therapeutic practices and have experienced healing for myself, especially after the trauma of an unexpected tragedy, twenty plus years ago, that forever changed my life as a young wife and mother. It is a privilege and an honor to be a part of the hard work my clients undertake to restore their mental health and whole body wellness.
When not in session, I enjoy all the outdoor activities the California mountains and the Pacific Ocean have to offer, as well as the gardens in my own backyard. My husband and I have raised our son and daughter, and just recently shared in the joy of gaining a son-in-law. We love to try new restaurants and recipes, worship weekly at our church, catch a baseball game in San Diego, or travel to National Parks. I hold great respect for the sacred work accomplished in therapy and I am committed to walk with each and every one of my clients to help them attain their therapeutic goals.
