Abigail Cain, Therapist Trainee

Hi, I’m Abigail, and I am currently in training to become a licensed professional clinical counselor. My approach to therapy is collaborative, person-centered, and deeply relational. I strive to understand each individual’s background, lived experience, and values, integrating these elements into the therapeutic space. I am passionate about helping individuals gain insight and healing in their own stories.

Prior to pursuing a career in mental health, I worked with children and teens in various school-based settings. My time teaching sparked an interest in the deeper emotional needs I saw present in the classroom, leading to a desire to pursue a career in clinical counseling.

When working with children, I utilize age appropriate techniques to help work through emotional and relational difficulties. While working with teens and adults, I integrate evidence based theories such as Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Attachment Theory. I aim to continue training in trauma informed care for both children and adults.

I am in my final year of graduate school at Divine Mercy University, working under direct supervision at SALT and receiving supervision from clinical counselors in my graduate program. My graduate training has been multifaceted, preparing me to work with a wide range of individuals and areas of focus.

Originally from the Midwest, I have called Southern California home for the last decade. In my free time, you’ll find me trail running throughout San Diego, spending time with loved ones, or getting lost in a good book or podcast.

I would love to be in touch!"
